What is the timeline for Pharmacy POS systems?  Does the pharmacy have a freeze period before go live?

Our pharmacy point-of-sale is going through a clearinghouse; however, they aren’t aware of any conversion. Can you help clarify whether pharmacy POS is impacted by ProviderOne?

Q:           What is the timeline for Pharmacy POS systems?  Does the pharmacy have a freeze period before go live?

A:            Integration of the new ProviderOne Pharmacy POS that went live in October 2008 with the ProviderOne claims engine has the same timeline as the rest of the Phase 1 implementation: http://hrsa.dshs.wa.gov/ProviderOne/Projected%20Schedule.htm

Q:           Does the pharmacy have a freeze period before go live?

A:            Yes, the short pharmacy freeze period is from 10:00 PM the night before go-live until 6:00 AM on the day of go-live (ProviderOne implementation).

Q:           Our pharmacy point-of-sale is going through a clearinghouse; however, they aren’t aware of any conversion. Can you help clarify whether pharmacy POS is impacted by ProviderOne?

A:            DSHS’ new pharmacy POS system was implemented on Oct. 20, 2008, and was the first portion of ProviderOne to go live. At that time, pharmacy claims for Medicaid clients began being processed in ProviderOne; however, payments to pharmacies are still made from the legacy MMIS. The Pharmacy POS implementation back in October 2008 did not require pharmacies to use the new ProviderOne Client ID number.

When the “main” go-live occurs, all pharmacies will need to be complaint with the new Client ID. Also, pharmacies need to complete security set up ( so they can maintain their provider file or check client eligibility) and finish registration, just as all other providers need to do.

Regarding the impact of the ProviderOne transition or “cutover” activities, a system “freeze” of the Pharmacy POS is scheduled from 10 p.m. the night before ProviderOne go-live until 6 a.m. the day of go-live. Pharmacies will be asked to hold claims for billing during those hours.
