BACKGROUND, CONTRACT AND RESEARCH
-
Here is a Slide Show to tell you about WMIP.
-
When Did WMIP Start? The Washington Medicaid Integration Partnership project began January 1, 2005 with nearly 3500 clients with a managed care model integrating medical and chemical dependency services. DSHS expanded Mental Health services in October 1, 2005 for the 2000 remaining enrollees. DSHS integrated Long-Term Care services in the project October 1, 2006.

DSHS Research and Data Analysis (RDA) is providing analytic support to the the Medicaid Integration Partnership as it examines the potential benefits of providing medical care, mental health services, and long-term care in a more integrated fashion to the aged and disabled clients sometimes shared by different programs. Data tables prepared by RDA are available through this web site. They represent the most current analyses and may differ from prior releases due to refinements in analyses. Current tables compare costs and the numbers of eligible clients among three groups of Medicaid clients: Medicaid-only clients, dual-eligible clients, and GA-U clients (although not all are enrolled in WMIP). How Are We Doing? These studies compare WMIP clients with non-WMIP clients.
Here are additional background reports available on the RDA site related to the project:
-
Statewide data shows impact of drug abuse and mental health treatment linked to emergency room access. Parallel data on emergency rooms now is available on Snohomish, Pierce and King counties. In the works: Whatcom, Skagit and Island counties.
-
ER AND DRUGS: Frequent ER users have mental health and alcohol and drug treatment needs that are apparently not well addressed by the currently fragmented systems. Recent research shows the WMIP program can decrease ER use through better screening for mental health and substance abuse treatment needs and increased treatment penetration rates.
-
WMIP CLIENTS & JAILS: Click here to see document summarizing the Snohomish County Jail analysis that Looking Glass Analytics completed for DSHS. The data shows that WMIP clients spend a lot of time in the county jail.
